Home School
The decision to homeschool your child is a personal decision made by families and parents and the district will support that decision according to the guidelines set forth by the Minnesota Department of Education. Please note, however, that these local authorities may still prosecute for compulsory attendance violations prior to the date of the student’s official withdrawal from the local public school and official placement date in to a legally valid non-public (either a home or conventional) school setting.

If the investigation finds that the student is now properly enrolled in and regularly attending a legally valid non-public (either a home or a conventional) school, the role of local compulsory attendance enforcement authorities usually ends at that point, unless there are other non-home school related issues also involved.

Research from experts like Vanderbilt researcher Joseph Murphy, psychologist Peter Gray and others suggests homeschooling children not only have rich social lives, but may have higher quality social interactions than many conventionally educated students, especially since many schools offer less recess and free time than they did a decade ago.

The California Content Standards and Common Core Content Standards identify and describe the skills, knowledge, and abilities that all California students should be able to master at each grade level, beginning in kindergarten and continuing through grade twelve.

Formal school education for all children is a concept that is only about three hundred years old. A 2015 WIRED feature on tech-savvy homeschoolers suggests many of these families hope to instill innovative thinking and other practical skills they believe conventional education lack, which might explain why Sir Ken Robinson’s lecture, How Schools Kill Creativity,” became is the most-viewed TED Talk ever.

One of the things they can do is join a Private School Satellite Program (or PSP), these are private schools that support homeschooling, and so you have private school administration who help you find curriculum, help you find the support you might need when you’re just getting started.

Home schooling has been around in its present form for nearly 40 years, is gaining in popularity and is legal in all 50 states. Home schoolers whose motivations are primarily religious have certainly not gone away, but they are now joined by those whose reasons range from concerns about special education to bad experiences with teachers or school bullies to time-consuming outside activities to worries over peanut allergies (see Figure 1).
Some of these approaches are used in private and public schools. We have five different legal ways to homeschool in California, none of which are actually called homeschooling, so it can be kind of confusing.
